Toll tags in India use RFID technology, not NFC. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is a wireless communication technology that uses radio waves to communicate between a reader and a tag. The RFID tag contains a unique identification number, and when it comes within range of the reader, the information is transmitted to the reader.
In the case of toll tags in India, the RFID tag is affixed to the vehicle’s windshield, and as the vehicle passes through a toll booth, the reader captures the unique identification number and deducts the toll amount from the user’s account. The RFID technology is more suitable for toll tags as it allows for faster and more efficient toll collection, reducing the waiting time at toll booths.
NFC (Near Field Communication), on the other hand, is a short-range wireless communication technology that enables two devices to communicate with each other when they are in close proximity. While NFC can also be used for payment and access control applications, it is not commonly used for toll collection in India.
